About Junce
Junce is a small chess set company in London, run by two sisters. Gizem is an industrial designer. Didem is an engineer who now runs production, the orders and everything in between, around two children.
How it started
The first set was a birthday present. Gizem wanted a chess set that looked like an object she would leave out on a table, not a game to be put away, and could not find one. So she designed one: low, faceted pieces with real weight, on a plain wooden board. Friends asked for their own. That was 2022.
How the sets are made
We say exactly what our sets are made of, because we think you should know before you spend this kind of money.
- Design happens in London. Every piece and board is Gizem's original design, developed first with 3D printing and then moved to casting so the pieces have the weight and finish a set at this price should have.
- Making happens in our own workshop in Turkey, where our team casts the pieces in weighted polyester resin from Gizem's moulds and cuts and finishes the solid wood boards with a walnut-toned or black edge.
- Finishing and dispatch are ours. Each set is checked one by one, felted underneath and packed in London; US stock is held in our Georgia warehouse.
- Green and cream pieces are 3D printed from the same original design.
- Boxes are rigid, printed with the Junce mark, and hold the pieces in place in transit.
Small variations in surface and colour are part of a hand-finished object. If anything arrives damaged we replace it, no questions.

UK and European orders ship from London. US orders ship from our warehouse in Georgia, which is why they arrive in 3 to 5 working days with no import duties to pay.
